Job summary

The City of Burlington is seeking a park maintenance worker to perform litter pickup, restroom cleaning, turf maintenance, and basic grounds keeping in city parks. You will assist with athletic fields, graffiti removal, playground upkeep, and encampment removal per policy.

A strong commitment to safety, public service, and diversity is essential. Valid driver's license, ability to lift 50 lbs, and willingness to work outdoors in winter are required.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the collection of refuse in the park system.
• Assist in the maintenance of turf care to include mowing, trimming, seeding, aerating.
• Clean restrooms regularly including sweeping/mopping, restocking supplies, wiping surfaces.
• Assist in lay out, painting and maintenance of athletic fields.
• Assist in removing graffiti and vandalism in the parks.
• Maintain accurate records of work completed.
• Assist in maintenance of playgrounds.
• Assist with removal of encampments per City policies.
• Provide park advocacy and report undesirable activity to supervisors.
• Work independently with high customer service in public settings.
• Assist in special events and support volunteers in the parks.
• Attend mandatory trainings and meetings.
• Perform other tasks as necessary.
• Work in cold weather conditions.

Job description

This position is mainly responsible for picking up litter in the parks on foot. A variety of maintenance tasks will be incorporated in the field including but not limited to cleaning bathrooms, addressing vandalism, and managing vegetation on a routine basis.

Pay Grade: $20.00 Hourly
Remote Tier 1: Zero (0) days remote/week.

• Assist in the collection of refuse in the park system;
• Assist in the maintenance of turf care to include, mowing, trimming, seeding, aerating;
• Clean restrooms regularly. This includes sweeping/mopping, restocking supplies, wiping down all surfaces including all sinks, urinals, and toilets.
• Assist in the lay out, painting and maintenance of all athletic fields;
• Assist in removing graffiti and addressing vandalism in the parks;
• Assist in maintaining accurate records of work completed;
• Assist in the maintenance of playgrounds
• Assist with removal of encampments in accordance with Outreach and Removal Policies set forth by the City of Burlington.
• Be a park advocate, which includes providing excellent customer feedback, to notifying park supervisors if undesirable activity, damage, excessive littering etc. exists within a park;
• High level of customer service in a public atmosphere;
• Able to work efficiently on an independent basis;
• Assist in special events;
• Support volunteer services in the parks;
• Attend mandatory trainings and meetings;
• Assist in other job tasks as necessary;
• Work in cold weather conditions

• Ability to shovel snow and use a snowblower to clear walking paths and stairs.
• Ability to lift 50lbs.
• Ability to perform routine and basic maintenance on grounds maintenance equipment.
• Ability to communicate effectively to both public and staff.
• Ability to work well with others and individually.
