Job summary

Jekyll Island Authority is seeking a Landscaper to perform small-scale landscaping tasks and grounds maintenance under regular supervision. The role collaborates with gardeners and other technicians to prepare sites, plant flora, mulch, prune, and manage grounds across assigned areas.

Two levels exist: Landscaper II and I, with experience requirements and eligibility for CDL. The position includes benefits, PTO, holidays, and storm-response duties during emergencies.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Valid driver's license (CDL a plus).
• 1–2 years relevant experience in golf course maintenance or landscape.
• Self-motivated and reliable.
• Willingness to learn unfamiliar but essential job functions.
• Ability to work within a team.
• Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.

Responsibilities

• Hauls plant materials to and from work sites and assists with unloading trucks and delivering materials.
• Performs numerous functions such as pulling weeds, picking up trash, plant debris, and raking pine straw.
• Pick up trash, remove limbs, Spanish moss, and debris after storms or wind events.
• Operates mowing equipment, weed-eaters, backpack blowers, and edgers to maintain turfgrass and beds.
• Place straw and mulch around bases of trees, plants, and shrubs to prevent evaporation and freeze damage.
• Prunes trees and shrubs using hand and power tools.
• Sprays around trees and shrubs with herbicides and applies nutrients.
• Fills in for the Crew Leader in their absence.
• In storm events or evacuations, report back within 24 hours to assist with storm cleanup.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
