Job summary

Montgomery-Public-Schools in Birmingham is seeking a Landscaping Assistant to perform a broad range of grounds maintenance under the Director of Facilities and Maintenance. This role maintains an attractive school environment and supports daily operations.

Duties include lawn care, trimming, debris removal, minor repairs on equipment, and assisting other maintenance staff as needed. A HS diploma and prior landscaping experience preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or equivalent.
• Minimum 2 years landscaping, horticulture, farming, or small engine repair experience preferred.
• Management reserves the right to modify responsibilities as needed.

Responsibilities

• Care for established lawns by mulching, weeding, grubbing and removing thatch, trimming and edging around flower beds, walks and walls.
• Use garden edgers, mow and edge lawns, operate power mowers and other small power tools.
• Gather and remove litter, rake, mulch and compost leaves.
• Prune and trim trees, shrubs and hedges with appropriate tools.
• Trim and pick flowers and clean flower beds.
• Provide upkeep of sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, planters and other ground features.
• Operate powered equipment such as mowers, tractors, chain saws and pruning saws.
• Use hand tools like shovels, rakes, pruning saws, hedge trimmers and axes.
• Maintain and perform minor repairs on grounds equipment as needed.
• Policing grounds areas of trash, litter and debris before cutting.
• Assist other maintenance personnel during emergencies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
