Position Details

Working Title: Grounds Keeper – Rock Eagle – Temporary
Department: CAES-Rock Eagle 4-H Center
Employment Type: Temporary, Employee (Non‑Exempt)
FLSA Status: Non‑Exempt
FTE: 1.00
Salary: Commensurate with experience
Start Date: 08/25/2025
Closing Date: Open Until Filled

Duties and Responsibilities

• Operate lawnmowers, edgers, and weed whackers (35% of time)


• Operate backpack blowers to clean roads, sidewalks, roofs, and gutters (25% of time)


• Trash pickup around center, removal of downed trees and limbs (15% of time)


• Prune and trim bushes, shrubs, and trees; spray herbicides to control weeds (15% of time)


• Assist with general maintenance in plumbing, AV, electrical, painting, and HVAC (10% of time)


• Other duties may include mowing, edging, trimming, chopping, stacking stone, spreading straw, painting fields, and using chainsaws and related equipment as needed.

Qualifications

• Experience with zero‑turn, stand‑up, walk‑behind, and push‑type lawnmowers.


• Proficiency in operating weed trimmers, blowers, chainsaws, and backpack sprayers.


• Knowledge of mixing and spraying pesticides and herbicides.


• Familiarity with plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and propane gas systems.


• Good communication and courteous service orientation.


• Physical ability to work in extreme weather, on roofs, ladders, and drive as required.

Physical Demands

Work will be performed in extreme weather conditions. Tasks include working on roofs and ladders and driving vehicles as necessary.
