Job summary

The Orono Public Schools are seeking a Maintenance Technician - Grounds to care for district grounds and facilities, handle turf and irrigation, support athletic field setups, and perform occasional indoor maintenance. The role reports to the Coordinator of Buildings and Grounds and emphasizes safe, professional operations.

Typical schedule is Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM–2:30 PM with on-call for weather-related issues. Competitive hourly pay with full benefits per the Custodial Master Contract.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma (or equivalent) required.
• 2–3 years of relevant ground maintenance experience requested.
• Supervisory or crew lead experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee grounds crews and seasonal staff on-site.
• Maintain turf, trees, irrigation, parking lots, and fields.
• Oversee snow/ice mitigation, field setup, and playground inspections.
• Inspect and service grounds equipment and vehicles.
• Manage preventive maintenance schedules and inventory.
• Ensure OSHA/EPA/Fire Marshal/MDE compliance in operations.
• Coordinate with Buildings and Grounds to deliver projects.
