Job summary

City of Norfolk’s Parks and Recreation Department seeks an Equipment Operator II to join landscaping crews maintaining 2700 acres of turf and beds. Position works with Parks and Forestry Operations at 2839 Dana Street, Norfolk, VA 23509, with a 6:30AM–3:00PM, Monday–Friday schedule and a full-time status.

Requires two years of machinery operation experience, valid VA driver’s license, and ability to obtain pesticide licenses.

Qualifications

• Knowledge to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes.
• Two years experience in operation of machinery for grounds maintenance and horticulture.
• Valid Virginia Driver's License required.

Responsibilities

• Maintains grounds and right of ways, mowing, pruning, planting and debris removal.
• Operates heavy equipment including surf rakes, backhoes, loaders and trucks.
• Performs safety checks and light maintenance on equipment; handles routine tasks.
