Job summary

City of Norfolk in Norfolk, VA seeks an Equipment Operator II to maintain 2700 acres of turf and landscape beds, and to work with Parks and Forestry Operations on a regular basis.

The role requires two years of machinery experience, a Virginia driver's license, and the ability to obtain a Va. Pesticide license within six months; standard hours are Monday through Friday, 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM, with a 40-hour week, offering a competitive pay and retirement package.

Qualifications

• Two years experience in operation of machinery for grounds maintenance and horticulture.
• Valid Virginia Driver's License required.
• Able to obtain Va. Pesticide license within 6 months.
• May require Commercial Driver License (CDL).
• Four years of high school education or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Maintains grounds and right of ways by mowing, raking leaves, planting, pruning and debris removal.
• Operates heavy equipment including Surf Rakes, backhoes, front end loaders, dump trucks, and mowers.
• Performs safety checks and minor preventative maintenance on equipment.
• Other duties as assigned and scheduled.
