Job summary

City of Norfolk seeks an Equipment Operator II to support the St. Paul’s Blue-Greenway construction. This role works with Parks and Forestry Operations to provide flood water management, water quality treatment, and open space for new communities.

Essential: two years' machinery experience; valid Virginia Driver's License; ability to obtain a Virginia Pesticide license within 6 months. Work location is 2839 Dana Street, Norfolk, VA. Hours: Mon–Fri, 6:30 AM–3:00 PM.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two years' experience operating machinery for grounds maintenance/horticulture.
• Valid Virginia Driver's License; ability to obtain Virginia Pesticide license within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Operates heavy equipment including Surf Rakes, backhoes, front end loaders, dump trucks, and maintainers; operates mowers, tractors, forklifts, and other equipment.
• Maintains grounds and rights of way; collects trash, mows, prunes, plants, applies chemicals, loads mulch, and maintains turf and athletic fields.
• Performs safety checks and minor preventative maintenance on equipment; ensures equipment is safe to operate.
• Other duties as assigned.
