This is a Full-Time 40 Hour Weekly position with the Bureau of Human Resources and Administration - Building and Grounds. For more information, visit https://boa.sd.gov/.

The Grounds Crew Leader/Equipment Mechanic installs and repairs mechanical systems, performs preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment, and participates in grounds maintenance including lawn care, tree care, flower beds, shrubs, sidewalks, and snow removal.

Indoor and outdoor work with occasional exposure to extreme weather and operating equipment is required. Work hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday-Friday, with occasional on-call work outside regular hours.

Licenses and Certifications: Must possess or obtain a Driver’s license and a Class B CDL with air brakes endorsement.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

• Prior mechanic experience
• Light to heavy equipment operation experience (beneficial)

Knowledge of:

• Automotive principles, tools, and equipment
• Internal combustion engines, drivetrains, hydraulic and electrical systems
• Safety precautions and maintenance practices
• Grounds maintenance knowledge

Skills in:

• Operating hand, power, and shop tools
• Operating front-end loaders, snow plows, forklifts

Abilities in:

• Maintaining high ethical standards
• Working well with others
• Completing work accurately and thoroughly
• Performing heavy lifting (50+ lbs.) and physical labor
