Job summary

Valiant Integrated Services is seeking a Grounds Contract Maintenance Manager to join our team at the Womack Army Medical Center and surrounding clinics in Fayetteville, NC. You will lead grounds maintenance programs focusing on tree, shrub, and turf care, oversee safety procedures, and coordinate pest-management practices.

You will supervise up to 20 staff, review work plans, manage irrigation operations, and work with contractors to ensure on-time completion of maintenance projects.

Qualifications

• Prior experience in landscaping supervision.
• Extensive experience in commercial landscaping, turf, or horticulture.
• Previous experience with irrigation repair or installation.
• Ability to read plans, prepare estimates, and perform physical labor for landscape projects.
• Proficient written and verbal communication; knowledge in pesticide application.

Job description

VGS is looking for a Grounds Contract Maintenance Manager to join our team!

In this role you will be responsible for grounds management with emphasis on tree, shrub, and turf care; operational safety procedures; diagnosis of plant pest problems; the safe use of chemicals, fertilizers, and pesticides used regularly; rainbird irrigation systems and controllers; and leadership techniques and supervisor theories.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Responsible for the grounds of Womack Army Medical Center and 31 outlying clinics
• Directly supervisors up to 20 employees.
• Carries out supervisor responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
• Assigns and reviews work duties of the grounds crew to ensure work is done in a safe and productive manner.
• Oversees tree & shrub maintenance operations and makes recommendations for changes, improvements, and equipment.
• Requests proposals, reviews costs/benefits, and purchases goods or services with project manager approval.
• Attends staff meetings and other required training.
• Cooperates with other departmental personnel in completing assigned tasks.
• Retains contractors and coordinates their work.
• Assures timely completion of work requests and preventative maintenance.
• Oversees irrigation operation, schedules, and maintenance, and coordinates annual start up and shut down procedures.
• Provides safe environment by supervising and coordinating the removal of snow, ice, leaves, fallen branches, and other weather-related debris and trash.
• Oversees application of chemicals & fertilizers evenly and accurately as instructed on product labels as part of an integrated pest management plan.
• Remains u to date and informed on current landscaping maintenance practices.
• Coordinates maintenance and repairs on grounds vehicles and equipment.
• Maintains an appropriate inventory of materials, chemicals, and equipment.
• Maintains SOS records on chemicals.
• Required to work outside normal schedule due to seasonal events, weather conditions, and operational requirements.
• Essential personnel during inclement weather
• Reviews and approves timesheets and vacation scheduling of grounds personnel.
• Conducts disciplinary actions and documentation on grounds personnel as needed meeting the CBA & corporate guidelines.
• Provides documentation and reports on the grounds activities as requested by project manager and facility management division.
• Interviewing, hiring, and training employees.
• Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

• REQUIRED: Landscape Contractor License
• Pesticide Applicator License
• Certified plant professional
• Post high school education in an agronomic field of study

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Physical requirements may include, but are not limited to, lifting, crawling under/over utilities and in compromised spaces, ascending and descending stairs, climbing, extended sitting or standing, to various degrees.
• Ability to work in a variety of circumstances, including climbing ladders, scaffolds, lift equipment, and roofs in heat/cold/day/night conditions.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs.
