Job summary

Qualifications

• Must be able to operate common groundskeeping tools safely.

Responsibilities

• Maintain grass height to three inches or less.
• Edge curbing around driveways and sidewalks; keep beds weed-free.
• Perform preventive maintenance on assigned equipment.
• Water and irrigate plantings; keep entrances and parking areas clean.
• Power wash exterior surfaces and clean outside windows as needed.
• Report safety hazards and equipment repairs; log maintenance in Help Desk.
• Supervise and monitor inmates per program requirements.
• Assist with other maintenance tasks as needed during inclement weather.

JOB SUMMARY

Under the general direction of the Director of Facilities, and the direct supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Groundskeeper will maintain the grounds in a clean, safe, attractive and acceptable manner, in accordance with TJC, federal, state, and local guidelines, organizational and departmental policies and procedures. Position may be assigned duties inside the facility as needed or during inclement weather. Staff member communicates with medical staff, other departments, and outside agencies while maintaining confidentiality. Position requires self-motivation, creativity, and capabilities to function in a semi-autonomous role within a fast pace and dynamic environment.

STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE

1. Maintains all grass at a height of no more than three inches.
2. Keeps curbing around driveways and sidewalks edged and swept.
3. Keeps all shrubs and flower beds free of grass and weeds.
4. Performs preventive maintenance on assigned equipment.
5. Keep flowers around building watered as needed. Performs irrigation activities.
6. Cleans all entrances to the facility.
7. Cleans parking lots.
8. Cleans outside windows.
9. Cleans equipment and notifies Manager of equipment needing repairs. Reports safety hazards to the Manager, or to maintenance and logs on Help Desk.
10. Responsible for maintaining grounds on hospital proper site and around physician office complex on hospital campus.
11. Participates in continuing education.
12. Responsible for maintaining organizational facilities in accordance with TJC, federal and state, organizational and departmental policies and procedures.
13. Supervises and monitors inmates and receives inmate management training.
14. Plants shrubs, trees and flowers. Prunes trees and shrubs.
15. Sprays for weeds and insects using unrestricted chemicals.
16. Perform minor maintenance and repair on equipment.
17. Clean up litter.
18. Maintain drains, gutters and storm water runoff avenues.
19. Power wash exterior surfaces.
20. Maintain the highest standards of hospital cleanliness.
21. Performs other duties as required, or other assigned duties inside the facility during inclement weather.
22. Assist with any Maintenance tasks as needed.

• All employees must wear proper PPE based on their designated Job Title:
• Materials Management, Environmental Services, and Maintenance staff must wear back brace while lifting anything 25 pounds or higher.
• Care Center direct resident care staff must wear a back brace and gait belt at all times while on duty.
• Clinical staff are required to wear proper PPE designated to their function and duties.
• All employees are required to identify a financial institution for direct deposit of pay before the start of employment and during employment tenure.

Requirements

Minimum Level of Education: High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred; one year or more related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Formal Training: None required.

Licensure, Certification, Registration: None required.

Work Experience: One year or more experience is preferred as a groundskeeper; or related work in the healthcare or related industry.

Tools and Equipment Used: Calculator, personal computer, telephone, paper shredder, copier, printer, mowers, hedge trimmers, weed eaters, hoes, rakes, shovels, blowers, motor vehicles, and other associated groundskeeping equipment.
