Job summary

Sylvania is seeking a Grounds Person to maintain district grounds in a clean, safe, and orderly condition. The role supports the health, safety and well-being of students, staff, and visitors.

Responsibilities include operating and transporting grounds equipment, complying with certifications, and performing physically demanding outdoor work in all weather. The position requires a valid IL driver’s license and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Maintains a valid Illinois Driver’s License and obtains required certifications and training as needed.
• Possesses certifications related to pesticide application, equipment operation, and snow removal as required.
• Ability to operate and transport grounds maintenance equipment safely (mowers, tractors, skid steers, etc.).
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team; strong communication skills.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and adapt to changing needs.
• Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work in all weather; lift up to 50 pounds.

Job description

The Grounds Person is responsible for maintaining the district grounds in a clean, safe, and orderly condition. This role helps ensure the outdoor environment is well-maintained and promotes the health, safety and well-being of students, staff, and visitors.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Maintains a valid Illinois Driver’s License and obtains and maintains all required certifications and training relevant to the position, as deemed necessary by the Executive Director of Facilities.
• Ability to obtain and maintain applicable certifications related to pesticide application, equipment operation, and snow removal activities as required.
• Ability to safely operate and transport equipment including mowers, tractors, skid steers, utility vehicles, snow plows, spreaders, trailers, and other grounds maintenance equipment.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong communication and customer skills.
• Ability to prioritize work assignments and respond to changing operational needs.
• Ability to perform physically demanding work in all weather conditions.
• Tasks involve the ability to exert physical effort in heavy work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of heavy objects and materials up to 50 pounds independently.
