Job summary

Fountain Hills Unified District is seeking a groundskeeper to maintain outdoor facilities and grounds around district properties. The role involves hands-on maintenance, equipment operation, and assisting with irrigation and safety procedures.

The successful candidate will lead daily grounds upkeep, train staff, and ensure a clean, safe outdoor environment for students, staff, and the community.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required or preferred.
• Previous groundskeeping experience preferred.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents; communicate in writing and verbally.
• English and Spanish language ability a plus.
• Physically able to lift 50 pounds and perform outdoor maintenance tasks.

Responsibilities

• Provide and maintain a safe, attractive outdoor environment for students, staff, and the community.
• Lead daily groundskeeping and maintenance of fields, landscaped areas, sidewalks, and outdoor facilities.
• Train and supervise groundskeeping staff in proper procedures, equipment operation, and safety.
• Operate, clean, and perform routine minor repairs on landscaping equipment and irrigation systems.
• Maintain irrigation systems and apply fertilizers/herbicides per safety rules.
• Keep inventory of supplies and report needs; maintain records of work performed.
• Communicate with administration about priorities, safety concerns, and status of projects.
• Perform additional duties including assisting with general facilities operations.

Job description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES shall include, but not be limited to the following:

• To provide, in cooperation with the faculty and administration, a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and well-maintained outdoor environment for students, staff, and the community
• Leads and actively performs the daily maintenance and care of assigned grounds, athletic fields, landscaped areas, sidewalks, driveways, playgrounds, and other outdoor facilities in a neat, safe, and orderly manner
• Provides hands-on training and instruction to grounds keeping staff in proper landscaping procedures, equipment operation, maintenance practices, and safety requirements
• Operates, maintains, cleans, and performs routine minor repairs on landscaping and grounds maintenance equipment, including mowers, trimmers, blowers, irrigation equipment, and related tools
• Maintains and assists with the repair and upkeep of irrigation systems
• Applies or assists with the application of fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, and other grounds maintenance products in accordance with established procedures, safety requirements, and applicable regulations
• Maintains an inventory of landscaping, grounds maintenance, and safety supplies and reports the need for replacements or additional materials
• Maintains accurate records of assigned work within the district systems
• Communicates with administration and appropriate staff regarding grounds maintenance needs, work priorities, safety concerns, special projects, and the status of assigned work
• Perform additional duties efficiently and willingly, as assigned, including assisting with general facilities operations

Education and/or Experience

Preferred:

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Previous groundskeeping experience

Basic Skills

• Ability to maintain rapport and composure with parents, students, staff, and the general public
• Ability to recognize potential problems and take steps to prevent hazards

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret written documents. Ability to respond effectively to inquiries or complaints. Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing. Ability to communicate in English and Spanish a plus.
