Job summary

STS Technical Services is hiring a Ground Vehicle Mechanic in South Bend, Indiana. The role focuses on diagnosing and repairing defense light wheeled vehicles in a production and retrofit environment, with collaboration across Production, Quality, Engineering and Materials to meet specifications and production targets.

The ideal candidate has hands-on mechanical and electrical troubleshooting experience, can read technical drawings and service manuals, and supports vehicle rework and retrofit

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license.

• Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical systems on defense vehicles.
• Ability to diagnose and repair electrical systems on defense vehicles.
• Experience in production or retrofit environment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair defense light wheeled vehicles.
• Modify and retrofit vehicles in a production environment.
• Install mechanical vehicle components.
• Install electrical vehicle components.
• Install structural vehicle components.
• Remove and rework vehicle components as required.
• Follow engineering specifications during retrofit activities.
• Support production line operations.
• Troubleshoot vehicle build issues.
• Resolve production defects to help maintain workflow.
• Coordinate with Production, Quality, Engineering and Materials teams.
• Support timely completion of retrofit activities.
• Read and interpret technical drawings.
• Follow work instructions and service manuals.
• Identify recurring vehicle or production issues.
• Escalate issues when required.
• Support process improvement and corrective action activities.
• Follow established safety standards.
• Maintain required quality standards.
• Support production schedule requirements.
• Assist with vehicle validation and inspection.
• Support testing of retrofitted vehicles before release.
• Maintain accurate repair and modification documentation.
• Document parts usage and completed work.

This role supports production and retrofit operations by diagnosing, repairing, modifying and upgrading defense light wheeled vehicles in a manufacturing environment.

The ideal candidate has hands-on mechanical and electrical troubleshooting experience, can work from technical drawings and service documentation, and is comfortable supporting vehicle rework, retrofit and production activities.

Position Overview

The Ground Vehicle Mechanic will diagnose and repair defense light wheeled vehicles while supporting modification, retrofit and production work.

This position works closely with Production, Quality, Engineering and Materials teams to resolve build issues, complete vehicle rework and ensure finished units meet applicable specifications, quality standards and production requirements.
