Job summary

Umbra Lab, Inc. in Reston, VA is seeking a Ground Systems Engineer & Architect to define, design, integrate, and validate secure, mission‑critical ground systems for space, ISR, and national security missions.

This hands‑on role leads the architecture across classified environments and collaborates across software, hardware, network, and cybersecurity teams. You will enable modern ground infrastructures with virtualization, containerized services, and DevSecOps practices to support U.S.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
• Active TS/SCI security clearance with ability to maintain access.
• 8–12+ years in systems/software/infrastructure engineering for government or aerospace programs.
• Experience designing, architecting, integrating, and verifying mission-critical ground systems.
• Knowledge of COMSEC plans, key management, and secure communications.

Responsibilities

• Architect secure end-to-end ground system architectures for space, ISR, and national security missions.
• Plan and execute system integration, verification, and operational testing activities.
• Define COMSEC, RED/BLACK architectures, cross-domain interfaces, and secure networking.
• Lead requirements development, interface definitions, and technical trade studies.
• Engage with customers during SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, and ORR reviews.
