Job summary

Umbra, an American space technology company, seeks a Ground Systems Engineer & Architect to define, design, and validate secure, mission-critical ground systems for national security missions. You will translate requirements into scalable architectures, lead verification, and collaborate with software, hardware, network, and cybersecurity teams across classified environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline.
• Active TS/SCI security clearance with the ability to maintain access.
• 8-12+ years of professional experience in systems, software, or infrastructure engineering or ground systems for government or aerospace programs.
• Experience designing, architecting, integrating, and verifying mission-critical ground systems for IC/DoD/space programs, including system architecture and verification planning.
• Experience developing and implementing COMSEC plans, key management, and secure communications requirements.
• Strong understanding of RED/BLACK architectures, secure system boundaries, cross-domain considerations, and classified network security.
• Experience with IT infrastructure and network integration, including secure networking, virtualization, storage, servers, and enterprise computing environments.
• Experience developing Kubernetes/Docker containerized services.
• Strong systems engineering experience leading system integration, verification, validation, and requirements decomposition for complex ground systems.

Responsibilities

• Architect secure end-to-end ground system architectures for space, ISR, and national security missions.
• Lead system integration, verification, validation, and operational testing activities.
• Design secure enterprise infrastructure including COMSEC, cross-domain interfaces, and classified networking.
• Provide technical leadership and engage with customers during reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, ORR).
• Enable mission operations using DevSecOps, IaC, automation, and modern software deployment pipelines.
