Job summary

Umbra Space is seeking a Ground Software Systems Architect to define, design, integrate, validate, and deliver secure, mission-critical ground software for space, ISR, and national security missions. This hands-on leadership role leads architecture across a key customer program, translating complex requirements into scalable, secure solutions in classified environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, CS, IS, or related field.
• Active TS/SCI security clearance.
• 10+ years of systems/software/ground systems engineering experience.
• Experience as a technical lead/architect delivering mission-critical ground software or ground systems.
• Proficiency in Python or C/C++.

Responsibilities

• Lead Ground Software Architecture: define end-to-end architectures for mission-critical ground systems.
• Lead System Integration & Verification: plan and execute V&V activities to ensure requirements.
• Design Secure Enterprise Infrastructure: develop secure computing environments incl. COMSEC, cross-domain interfaces, and containerized services.
• Drive Technical Leadership & Customer Engagement: interface with government customers; communicate decisions and risks.
• Provide Cross-Functional Technical Leadership: collaborate across engineering teams to resolve challenges.
• Enable Mission Operations & Modern Engineering Practices: deliver mission-ready capabilities with DevSecOps and IaC.
