Job Details Job Location Sacramento, CA Salary Range $16.50 - $16.50 Hourly Description Ground Handler

This is a variable type position.

Primary Purpose of the position
This Ground Handler position requires an individual who understands the value of excellent customer service and the ancillary services that are provided by Modern Aviation to our customers. This position will communicate and provide the necessary resources and services to meet the customer's needs. The Ground Handler will report to the Line Manager and will work with the complete management/supervisory team to ensure prompt responses to our customer's inquiries and requests, and to immediately notify the proper manager/supervisor in the event of any issues or concerns. The position requires the Ground Handler to work both inside the Executive Terminal and outside on the Aircraft Parking Ramp.

Essential Functions:

  • Meeting, greeting, and welcoming the passengers and flight crews of customer aircraft that arrive on the aircraft parking ramp
  • Directing the customers to the terminal facility for facility use or to meet guest's picking them up
  • Positioning rental vehicles to meet arriving aircraft so the customer can drive themselves to their destination where applicable
  • Assist with the offloading of luggage/baggage
  • Escort customer vehicles on and off the airfield when necessary
  • Once the passengers are taken care of, assist the flight crews with any service needs they may require including baggage and transportation assistance
  • Direct the flight crews to the terminal for placing any fuel or service orders
  • Assist the flight crews with trash removal and cleaning of the interior of the aircraft when requested
  • During departure preparation, assist the flight crews with delivery of catering, coffee, ice, and newspapers
  • Follow up and ensure all fuel and service orders for departure have been completed so the aircraft can depart on time
  • Assist with loading of luggage from the baggage carts or transportation vehicles into the aircraft
  • Returning rental vehicles from the aircraft parking ramp to the vehicle parking Jot
  • Assist fellow teammates where applicable when not servicing the customer
  • Thank the customers for their business and visit, welcome them back to visit again
  • Assist with improving Best Practices to provide Excellent Customer Service
  • Complete any other duties assigned by Management

Skills:
  • Must be well organized
  • Must be able to multi-task throughout the shift
  • Must possess good communication skills including written, verbal and radio communications
  • Must understand the phonetic alphabet and aviation acronyms
  • Must maintain good working relationships with fellow teammates
  • Must have customer service and/or line service experience
  • Must have the ability to learn and understand safety procedures, including the possible hazards on the airfield
  • Must have the ability to learn/use various computer software and Point of Sale systems
  • Must be able to work well under pressure
  • Must have the ability to make operational decisions when necessary
  • Must have a valid State Driver's License
  • Need to be able to lift up to 75 lbs
  • Must be willing and able to work any of our 3 shifts: 1st shift 6amPT to 2pmPT, 2nd shift 2pmPT to 10pmPT, 3rd shift 10pmPT to 6amPT
  • Must be able to work weekends and holidays as needed.


Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Must have at minimum a High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to pass an airport security background check.
  • Must be able to read, write, and understand the English language.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug screen.
  • Must be able to lift up to 75lbs.
  • An associate degree in aviation/business related field is preferred.
  • Prior aviation experience is preferred.
  • Must be willing and able to work any of our 3 shifts: 1st shift 6amPT to 2pmPT, 2nd shift 2pmPT to 10pmPT, 3rd shift 10pmPT to 6amPT
  • Must be able to work weekends and holidays as needed.

Supervisory Responsibility: This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

FLSA Status:This position is nonexempt.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is exposed to wet and/or humid conditions including extreme heat and cold; high, precarious places; outside weather conditions and vibration; chemicals including aviation fuels, oils, and lavatory fluid. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Travel: This position requires no travel.

Physical Requirements: Must be able to perform frequent walking, sitting, stooping, stretching, bending, reaching, and grasping actions. May be required to work nights and weekends. Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
