Position Details

Location: Tampa, FL

Schedule: Tuesday - Saturday, 8:00 PM - 4:30 AM

This position is for individuals with limited experience in grossing surgical specimens. The role involves performing gross examinations of small, uncomplicated specimens, and some more complex specimens with supervisor approval. Supervision levels will be determined by the technical supervisor and/or laboratory director.

Compensation and Benefits

Pay Range: $25.68+ per hour, with potential shift differentials of 10% for some hours on second shift and 15% on third shift. Salary offers depend on skills, experience, education, and certifications. Performance bonuses may be available.

Responsibilities
  1. Prepare surgical specimens for histologic processing following policies and procedures.
  2. Accurately accession and label specimens, maintaining specimen integrity and patient identification.
  3. Describe gross features of specimens, noting all lesions, markings, and sutures.
  4. Gross moderate to high complexity specimens under supervision; handle a range of specimens with indirect supervision.
  5. Oversee Grossing Technician I performance and escalate non-routine specimens to Pathologist Assistants.
  6. Record measurements, dissect specimens, and prepare tissues for histology.
  7. Perform basic histology functions if trained and qualified.
  8. Prepare non-gynecological specimens, including FNA specimens, after training.
  9. Complete paperwork and follow lab procedures.
  10. Interact with pathologists regarding gross dissection and description.
  11. Identify and report issues affecting test performance or results.
  12. Maintain compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
  13. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Required: Meets corporate SOP and CLIA CFR requirements for tissue gross examinations.
  • Preferred: 3 years of histology and/or grossing experience.
Physical and Mental Requirements
  • Lifting objects up to 50 pounds with assistance as needed.
  • Ability to stand and work at a bench for long periods.
  • Manual dexterity for using laboratory tools and instruments.
Education and Certifications
  • Associates Degree required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Current state licensure, if applicable.
