Job description

Grossing Technician II - Tampa, FL - Tuesday - Saturday 8:00PM-4:30AM

This position involves grossing surgical specimens for individuals with limited experience in this area. The technician will perform gross examinations of small, uncomplicated specimens, and some more complex specimens with approval from the technical supervisor. Supervision levels will be determined by the supervisor and/or laboratory director.

Pay Range and Benefits

Pay Range: $25.68+ per hour. Eligible for shift differentials of 10% for some or all second shift hours and 15% for third shift hours. Additional details will be provided upon offer.

Salary offers depend on skills, training, experience, education, certifications, market, and organizational factors. Successful candidates may also qualify for annual performance bonuses.

Responsibilities
  1. Perform routine and non-routine activities involved in preparing surgical specimens for histologic processing, following policies and procedures.
  2. Ensure correct specimen accessioning and labeling, maintaining specimen integrity and patient identification.
  3. Describe gross features of specimens, including lesions, markings, and sutures.
  4. Gross moderate to high complexity specimens under supervision, and handle a broader range with indirect supervision.
  5. Oversee Grossing Technician I, escalate complex specimens, record measurements, dissect specimens, and prepare tissues.
  6. May perform basic histology functions after training, including embedding, microtomy, staining, and frozen sectioning.
  7. Prepare non-gynecological specimens, including FNA specimens, after training.
  8. Complete paperwork, follow lab procedures, interact with pathologists, report problems, ensure safety and compliance standards are met, and maintain a clean work area.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Required: Meets all requirements per corporate SOP and CLIA regulations for tissue gross examinations.

Preferred: 3 years of histology and/or grossing experience.

Physical and Mental Requirements
  • Lifting objects up to 50 pounds with assistance as needed.
  • Ability to stand and work at a bench for long periods, frequent walking/standing, manual dexterity.
Education and Certification

Associates or Bachelor's Degree. Current state licensure if applicable.
