Job summary

WVU Medicine in Morgantown, WV seeks a supervising Pathologists' Assistant to coordinate gross room operations and staff support across the Morgantown campus. The candidate should have ASCP certification, state licensure, and at least four years of experience with leadership experience preferred.

Qualifications

• ASCP Pathologists' Assistant certification required.
• Current licensure as required by state board where services are provided.
• Minimum four (4) years of experience as a Pathologists' Assistant.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate workflow with laboratories and clinical services for tissue samples from gross room receipt to histology, monitoring tissue quality and implementing improvements.
• Oversee Morgantown gross rooms operations and staffing (PAs, gross room technicians, and trainees).
• Provide strategic input for future growth with hospital and system expansion.
• Monitor and update policies and procedures; create and implement new ones as needed.
• Maintain accreditation readiness across oversight areas.
• In‑service staff on new policies and monitor compliance.
• Monitor daily gross room workflow and deploy personnel accordingly.
• Supervise gross room workflows and ensure timely, high‑quality work.
• Perform daily pathology tasks including frozen sections and processing specimens from various locations.
• Assist in quality improvement initiatives and counsel staff on quality issues.
• Document training and competency assessments per accreditation and regulatory standards.
• May train residents/fellows and pathology lab personnel as needed.
• Collaborate with Pathologists and Medical Directors to meet needs of the quaternary center and WVU Health System.
• Participate in recruiting, hiring, orientation and performance evaluations of staff.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
