This position is responsible for enrolling and completing the Level 1 training course provided by Petsense, “Paragon,” in preparation for a career in grooming and/or bathing.

Paragon is a virtual distance learning program where students are guided through a 15-week training designed to educate on bathing, grooming, safety, pet first aid and CPR, pet handling, dog anatomy, and physiology. This includes hands-on practice, book work, online exams, videos, and practical photo submissions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

As a Team Member, you should be available, flexible, adaptable, and service-oriented, capable of fulfilling the following:

• Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
• Work scheduled shifts, including varied hours, days, nights, weekends, and overtime as needed.
• Support selling initiatives by thanking customers, engaging with them and their pets, advising on products/services, and creating memorable experiences.
• Groom Technicians in Training are required to learn and perform tasks such as:
• Completing the Paragon Level 1 training within five weeks.
• Safe pet handling, bathing, drying, brushing, combing, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and preparatory hair trimming.
• Basic clipper and finishing techniques, customer service, professionalism, equipment handling, and maintenance.
• Ensuring animal safety and well-being, inspecting for health issues, practicing safety protocols, and sanitizing tools.
• Generating business through customer calls, appointment scheduling, follow-ups, and vaccination verification.
• Maintaining pet records and operating computer systems.
• Assisting with store recovery and caring for live animals as required.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Experience: Comfort working with dogs and cats, patience, and compassion. Must provide or be willing to purchase grooming tools.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Ability to read, write, and count accurately.

Preferred Skills and Abilities

• Proficient in using grooming tools and equipment.
• Effective communication with colleagues and customers.
• Compassionate animal handling, attention to detail, basic computer skills, and conflict resolution skills.

Working Conditions

• Indoor environment with moderate noise, exposure to grooming tools, pet waste, and wet conditions.
• Work shifts typically range from 4 to over 8 hours, involving physical activity and safety adherence.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for extended periods, and move around the store to groom and clean.
• Operate grooming instruments and store equipment safely and effectively.
