This position is responsible for enrolling and completing the Level 1 training course provided by Petsense, “Paragon,” in preparation for a career in grooming and/or bathing.

Paragon is a virtual distant learning program where students are guided through a 15-week training program designed to educate students on the fundamentals of bathing and grooming, while also providing basic skills in safety, pet first aid and CPR, pet handling, dog anatomy, and physiology. This is achieved through hands-on practice, book work, online exams, videos, and practical photo submissions for grading.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Min 5%)

As a Team Member, it is essential to be available, flexible, adaptable, and service-oriented. You must be able to fulfill the following requirements:

• Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
• Work scheduled shifts, including varied hours, days, nights, weekends, and overtime as needed.
• Support selling initiatives by thanking customers, engaging with them and their pets, advising on products/services, and creating memorable experiences.
• Groom Technicians in Training are required to learn and perform duties throughout their training, including:
• Completing the Paragon Level 1 training within five weeks.
• Safe pet handling, bathing, drying, brushing, combing, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and preparatory trimming.
• Basic clipping and finishing techniques.
• Customer service and professionalism.
• Equipment handling, maintenance, and safety protocols.
• Animal health inspections, sanitation, record-keeping, and operating computers.
• Assisting in store recovery and caring for live animals as needed.

May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Experience: Comfort working with dogs and cats, patience, and compassion. Must provide own grooming tools or be willing to purchase them.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent; ability to read, write, and count accurately.

Preferred Skills and Abilities

• Operate grooming tools and equipment effectively.
• Effective communication and compassion for animals.
• Attention to detail, computer literacy, and interpersonal skills.

Working Conditions

• Indoor environment with moderate noise, exposure to grooming tools, pets, and waste.
• Wet conditions during bathing, exposure to animals of various sizes and temperaments.
• Shifts generally range from 4 to over 8 hours, with safety and safety guidelines emphasized.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for extended periods, and move around the store.
• Use of grooming instruments, bending, kneeling, and squatting frequently.
• Operate store equipment and communicate effectively.
