Grocery Department Supervisor

As a supervisor, you will plan, direct, and supervise Team Members in the day-to-day operations within the Grocery Department. Serve as a mentor and coach for all Team Members. Implement strategies to improve customer service, drive department sales, and ensure customer needs are met with quick and efficient service. Maintain department appearance with a focus on prime shopping hours, product presentation, and company standards.

What You'll be Doing:
  • Ensure a positive company image by providing courteous, friendly, and efficient service to customers and team members.
  • Responsible for staffing, selection, and hiring to meet staffing needs.
  • Promote succession planning by providing career paths, identifying development needs, and being involved with and accountable for promotion decisions.
  • Document and apply disciplinary actions and make recommendations concerning discharge.
  • Responsible for P&L, achieving sales, and maintaining shrink for the department.
  • Model exceptional, fast, and friendly customer service.
  • Communicate the Meijer Friendly Initiative in all team meetings and conversations.
  • Mentor and coach team members to ensure customer service and sales goals are exceeded and standards are maintained.
  • Ensure team is thoroughly trained in all aspects of their jobs and has completed all required training.
  • Spend the majority of time within the store communicating with customers and team members to ensure exceptional service.
  • Promote a safe work environment.
  • Maintain reliable and consistent attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2-3 years of related retail experience.
  • One year of management experience.
  • Experience in areas such as meat, bakery, produce, deli, customer service, and product flow is helpful.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and precisely with team members.
  • Ability to resolve conflicts and address root causes.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Ability to analyze financial and statistical data to make informed decisions.
  • Ability to teach suggestive selling.
  • Commitment to practicing safety at all times.
  • Ability to mentor team members across all organizational levels.
  • Successful completion of all required certifications.
