Job summary

Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago seeks a Grocery Associate to promote nutrition services, maintain a clean store environment, assist with inventory, and handle WIC transactions. You will engage with clients, stock shelves, and stay informed on CCAC guidelines and updates.

The role requires flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, with a focus on accuracy in scanning bagging WIC products and delivering excellent customer service in a compassionate setting.

Qualifications

• Minimum H.S. Diploma or GED with 1–3 years relevant experience.
• Preferred AA degree with 3–5 years relevant experience.
• Background check and drug testing required.

Responsibilities

• Provide friendly client assistance, maintain facility floor appearance, respond to inquiries, and operate register. Promote nutrition services, event participation, and connection to additional resources.
• Accurately scan and bag redeemed WIC products. Assist with inventory processes. Ensure proper display, products, and rotation of merchandise, and report products that are damaged or near expiration.
• Maintain knowledge of WIC and CCAC guidelines and procedures, attending meetings and reviewing email correspondence to stay informed.
• Keep current with WIC and CCAC updates and employee communications.
• Engage in ongoing learning, training, and skill development to improve performance and contribute to team success.

Role Overview

The Grocery Associate role involves promoting nutrition services, maintaining a clean and safe environment, assisting with inventory management, accurately scanning and bagging WIC products, and staying updated with WIC and CCAC communications.

Job Responsibilities

• Provide friendly client assistance, maintain facility floor appearance, respond to inquiries, and operate register. Promote nutrition services, event participation, and connection to additional resources. Maintain a flexible schedule to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Accurately scan and bag redeemed WIC products. Assist with inventory processes. Ensure proper display, products, and rotation of merchandise, and report products that are damaged or near expiration. Stock and clean shelves and coolers. Handle inventory by stocking, lifting, moving, rotating, and managing inventory and goods in support of store operations and customer service.
• Responsible for maintaining knowledge of program and CCAC guidelines and procedures, staying up-to-date by attending meetings and reviewing email correspondence. Comply with CCAC policies and procedures, professional standards, and external requirements of all regulatory, licensing, or accreditation bodies while performing job expectations. Conduct work responsibilities in a timely manner and ensure a high level of quality in all instances.
• Keep current with WIC and CCAC updates and employee communication.
• Engage in ongoing learning, training, and skill development, seeking and applying feedback to continuously improve performance and contribute to team and organizational success.

Essential functions include all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Physical Demands

• Kneel and move from sitting, bending, kneeling, or standing multiple times a day
• Climb up and down up to 3 flights of stairs at a time
• Lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs

Pay Transparency

Salary: $19.35 per hour. In compliance with the Illinois Equal Pay Act of 2003 (820 ILCS 112/5, et seq.), Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago is required to provide the wages and benefits that it reasonably expects in good faith to offer for any specific job positions posted.
