Job summary

The Kroger Co. is seeking an Assistant Department Manager for the Grocery Department in Roanoke, VA. You will assist in planning, staffing, training and directing associates to maximize store sales and profits while maintaining safety and ethical standards.

You will lead merchandising efforts, coach staff, manage ordering, pricing and displays, and ensure excellent customer service in a fast-paced retail environment. This role requires flexibility and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• Effective written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to manage people and organize workloads.
• Willing to work mornings, afternoons, evenings, nights as needed.
• Experience in production, merchandising and customer service in grocery retail.

Responsibilities

• Assist Department Manager in organizing work and staffing to ensure prompt service.
• Train and schedule associates; respond to comments, requests and questions professionally.
• Use CAO to manage ordering and balance on hand during manager's absence.
• Price and display merchandise; ensure signage, rotation and space allocation.
• Promote and implement company initiatives and process improvements with the team.
• Perform duties as assigned and maintain a safe, respectful work environment.
