Job summary

Safeway seeks an Assistant Grocery Department Manager to lead daily operations, drive sales, and uphold in-stock levels and pricing accuracy. You will mentor associates, ensure displays meet standards, and support promotional sets and seasonal transitions.

Strong leadership, merchandising skills, and customer service focus are required to succeed in this fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Evening/weekend availability is expected.

Qualifications

• Strong customer-service focus with a visible team presence.
• Experience leading a grocery or retail team.
• Ability to train, coach, and develop associates.
• Familiarity with merchandising and planogram execution.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily Grocery Department operations with emphasis on service, sales, and readiness.
• Provide friendly, prompt customer service and resolve concerns professionally.
• Maintain shelves and displays to company standards and planograms.
• Assist with inventory, ordering, rotation, and backroom organization.
• Support training, scheduling, and development of associates; cover duties in absence of the manager.
