Responsibilities include:
- Informing customers of food specials and recommending grocery items to ensure they get the products they want and need.
- Checking product quality to ensure freshness, reviewing "sell by" dates, and taking appropriate action.
- Providing customers with fresh and non-perishable grocery products they have ordered.
- Labeling, stocking, and inventorying department merchandise.
- Reporting product ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
- Staying current with present, future, seasonal, and special ads.
- Adhering to all food safety regulations and guidelines.
- Maintaining proper temperatures in cases and coolers, and keeping temperature logs.
- Gaining and maintaining knowledge of products sold within the department and responding to questions and making suggestions about products.
- Creating an environment that makes customers feel welcome, important, and appreciated by answering questions regarding products sold within the department and throughout the store.
- Reinforcing safety programs by complying with safety procedures and identifying unsafe conditions to store management.
- Practicing preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and notifying management of repairs needed.
- Reporting customer or employee accidents to management.
- Working cooperatively in a high-paced and sometimes stressful environment.
- Managing conflict reasonably, non-confrontationally, and cooperatively.
- Acting with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information.
- Following directions and seeking assistance when necessary to resolve customer and business issues.
- Supporting and assisting through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.
- Performing essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.
