Job Description: Grocery Clerk

Create an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service. Establish and maintain a safe and clean environment that encourages our customers to return. Assist the department manager in reaching sales and profit goals and monitor all quality assurance standards. Responsibilities include:

1. Informing customers of food specials and recommending grocery items to ensure they get the products they want and need.
2. Checking product quality for freshness, reviewing "sell by" dates, and taking appropriate action.
3. Providing customers with ordered grocery products, both fresh and non-perishable.
4. Labeling, stocking, and inventory management of department merchandise.
5. Reporting product ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
6. Staying current with present, future, seasonal, and special ads.
7. Adhering to all food safety regulations and guidelines, maintaining proper temperatures, and keeping temperature logs.
8. Gaining product knowledge to respond to customer questions and make suggestions.
9. Creating a welcoming environment for customers by answering questions and providing assistance.
10. Reinforcing safety programs, complying with safety procedures, and reporting unsafe conditions.
11. Practicing preventive maintenance and notifying management of equipment issues.
12. Reporting customer or employee accidents.
13. Working cooperatively in a high-paced, sometimes stressful environment.
14. Managing conflicts in a reasonable, nonconfrontational manner.
15. Acting with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information.
16. Following directions and seeking assistance when necessary.
17. Supporting and assisting minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.
