Grocery Clerk Responsibilities

• Inform customers of food specials and recommend grocery items to ensure they get what they want and need.
• Check product quality for freshness, review 'sell by' dates, and take appropriate action.
• Provide customers with ordered grocery products, both fresh and non-perishable.
• Label, stock, and inventory department merchandise.
• Report product ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
• Stay current with present, future, seasonal, and promotional advertisements.
• Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines.
• Maintain proper temperatures in cases and coolers, and keep temperature logs.
• Develop knowledge of products sold within the department and respond to customer questions with suggestions.
• Create a welcoming environment that makes customers feel valued by answering questions and providing product information.
• Reinforce safety programs by following safety procedures and reporting unsafe conditions.
• Practice preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and reporting repairs.
• Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
• Work cooperatively in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment.
• Manage conflicts in a reasonable, non-confrontational manner.
• Act with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information.
• Follow directions and seek assistance when resolving customer and business issues.
• Support and assist minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.
• Perform essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
