Universal Stainless & Alloy Products, Inc. in Bridgeville, PA is seeking a dependable Grinder Operator to prepare steel products for rolling or reheating. You will remove surface impurities while maintaining safety, quality, and productivity in a heavy industrial environment.

The role begins as a Utility position with training before advancing to the posted Grinder Operator title. You will operate grinders, forklifts, cranes, and related equipment in a safety-focused team setting.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Experience in steel-related/heavy manufacturing preferred.
• Training on Gantry, Midwest, and Tysman grinders and other equipment will be provided.

Responsibilities

• Set up and position material for grinding and conditioning.
• Operate Gantry, Midwest, and Tysman grinders.
• Operate forklifts and cranes as necessary.
• Change grinding wheels as required.
• Safely operate grinding equipment and follow procedures.
• Inspect material and notify supervisor of non-conforming product.
• Report production, delays, and other operational information.
• Report equipment problems or maintenance concerns promptly.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Work safely and productively to meet production expectations.

Universal Stainless & Alloy Products, Inc. is seeking a reliable and motivated Grinder Operator to join our team in Bridgeville, PA. This position plays an important role in preparing steel products for rolling or reheating by removing surface impurities and abnormal conditions while maintaining a safe, productive, and clean work environment.

The ideal candidate is dependable, comfortable working in a heavy industrial environment, able to work a rotating schedule, and willing to learn and operate a variety of industrial equipment.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Grinder operator is responsible for grinding impurities and abnormal surface conditions from steel ingots and other material while removing the minimum amount of good metal necessary. The position requires attention to detail, good eye/hand coordination, mechanical aptitude, and ability to follow work order instructions.

This position will begin as a Utility role. Employees will receive training and gain experience until they meet the qualifications required to advance into the posted position title.

Employees will operate grinders, forklifts, cranes, and other equipment while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, and productivity.

BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Set up and position material for grinding and conditioning
• Operate Gantry, Midwest, and Tysman grinders
• Operate forklifts and cranes as necessary
• Change grinding wheels as required
• Safely operate grinding equipment and follow established operating procedures
• Condition material according to mill work order instructions
• Inspect material and notify the supervisor of non-conforming product
• Report production, delays, and other operational information as required
• Report equipment problems or maintenance concerns promptly
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
• Work safely and productively while meeting production expectations
• Perform other duties as assigned

SAFETY-SENSITIVE POSITION

This is a safety-sensitive position in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment. Employees are expected to follow all company rules and procedures, properly use required PPE, and immediately report unsafe conditions or equipment concerns.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Grinding equipment and sparks while inside a cab operated grinding machine
• Heat and hot steel
• Noise and dust
• Forklifts and overhead cranes
• Required personal protective equipment

EXPERIENCE:

• Previous experience in a steel-related or heavy manufacturing environment preferred
• Experience operating grinders, forklifts, cranes, or other industrial equipment is preferred
• Manufacturing or warehouse experience is a plus

EDUCATION/TRAINING

• High School diploma or GED is required
• Employees will receive training on the Gantry, Midwest, and Tysman grinders and other equipment required for the position

SCHEDULE:

• 12-hour shifts:
• 7:00AM-7:00PM
• 7:00PM-7:00AM
• 7 days on/3 days off
• 7 nights on/4 days off
• Employees must be flexible to work both day and night shifts. There are no permanent assigned day or night shifts
• Weekend and holiday work may be required
• Overtime may be required based on operational needs

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
• Ability to work in a hot environment
• Ability to bend, reach, climb, and work around industrial equipment
• Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
• Ability to safely operate and work around forklifts, cranes, and grinding equipment
• Ability to wear required PPE for extended periods
• Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation
