Job summary

Sloopy's Diner on the Ohio State campus is seeking a Grill Cook to run the flat-top and prepare burgers, breakfast items, and casual fare with speed and consistency during busy service periods.

You will manage tickets, maintain temperatures and food safety, and help with prep and closing duties. Weekend/evening availability is a plus, with a pay range of $16.00–$22.00 per hour and opportunities for growth.

Qualifications

• 1+ year of grill or line cook experience.
• Experience with flat-top grill in a high-volume diner.
• Ability to stand for full shifts and lift up to 50 lbs.
• Reliable, punctual, and a team player.
• Weekend and evening availability preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate the flat-top grill during breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
• Cook burgers, eggs, pancakes, sandwiches to order.
• Manage multiple tickets and keep up during peak hours.
• Set up, stock, and break down the grill station each shift.
• Maintain temps, cook times, and food safety.
• Keep grill area clean and assist with prep and closing.

Sloopy's Diner is hiring a Grill Cook for our kitchen on the Ohio State campus. The flat-top is the heart of a diner, and we need someone who can run it — burgers, breakfast, sandwiches, and everything else that comes across the grill — with speed and consistency through a heavy rush.

What you'll do

• Run the flat-top and grill station during breakfast, lunch, and dinner service
• Cook burgers, eggs, pancakes, sandwiches, and grilled menu items to spec and to order
• Manage multiple tickets at once and keep times tight during peak hours
• Set up, stock, and break down the grill station each shift
• Maintain proper temperatures, cook times, and food safety standards
• Keep the grill and surrounding area clean throughout service
• Support prep and closing duties as needed

What we're looking for

• 1+ year of grill or line cook experience preferred; top of the range goes to cooks who can run the station without supervision
• Comfortable on a flat-top in a high-volume environment
• Able to stand for full shifts and lift up to 50 lbs
• Reliable, punctual, and a team player
• Weekend and evening availability a plus
• Food handler certification a plus (we'll help you get it)
