Job summary

Alliant Energy in Cedar Rapids, IA, seeks an experienced Engineer to join the Grid Planning team to determine where and how new generation resources connect to the grid. From early planning through MISO interconnection, you will influence critical decisions supporting reliability and the energy transition.

You will work across generation, transmission, and distribution, collaborating with internal teams and industry partners while contributing to high‑impact projects and continuous learning.

Qualifications

• Engineer I: requires a Bachelor's Degree in an accredited Engineering program.
• Engineer II: 2 years of related experience and a Bachelor's Degree in engineering.
• Engineer III: 5 years of related experience and a Bachelor's Degree in engineering.
• Senior Engineer: 7 years of related experience and a Bachelor's Degree in engineering.

Responsibilities

• Follow safety rules to identify and fix unsafe conditions for self and team.
• Identify problems and propose solutions; communicate with stakeholders.
• Maintain awareness of customer needs and propose solutions.
• Lead discussions with stakeholders to support system studies with limited guidance.
• Apply regulatory engineering standards and recommend process improvements.
• Build moderately complex models and perform power flow studies or analyses.
• Understand interconnection agreements and relevant terms and requirements.
• Assist in budgeting and planning processes for department.
