Job summary

Brightsmith is seeking a seasoned grid interconnection professional to lead the Northeast projects' path to the grid. You will manage from initial application through going live, coordinating with grid operators, utilities, engineers, and internal teams.

This role requires 8+ years in interconnection, transmission planning, or energy regulation, plus strong project management and the ability to explain complex topics to leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, economics, public policy, or similar field.
• 8+ years working on grid interconnection, transmission planning, or energy regulation.
• Hands-on experience managing the technical studies and agreements required to connect a power project to the grid.
• Strong project management and coordination across stakeholders.
• Solid understanding of federal energy regulations and timelines.
• Ability to explain technical topics clearly to non-experts and leadership.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Background in battery storage or renewable energy strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage the grid connection process for Northeast projects from start to finish.
• Handle connection agreements and coordinate required technical studies.
• Track deadlines, deposits, and other requirements throughout the process.
• Work with grid operators, utility companies, outside engineers, and internal teams to solve problems as they come up.
• Turn technical study results into clear next steps for the project and engineering teams.
• Flag risks early and loop in leadership when needed.
• Partner with other departments to keep everyone aligned.
• Brief senior leadership on important updates.
• Act as the go-to person for grid connection questions in your markets.
• Stay current on regulatory trends and share relevant updates with the legal/regulatory team.
