Job summary

Sonesta International Hotels is seeking a Host/Hostess to warmly greet guests, escort them to tables, and assist in seating while upholding the restaurant’s standards. The role involves preparing the dining area, maintaining cleanliness, and supporting service throughout shifts.

You will be responsible for memorizing menu items, adhering to liquor regulations, and coordinating station assignments to ensure smooth operations and a welcoming guest experience.

Qualifications

• Basic reading, writing and math skills.
• Prior customer service and/or cash handling experience in the hospitality industry preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greet guests courteously and escort to tables.

What this role is all about

Courteously greet and escort guests to tables and assist in seating, ensuring hotel's standards of service. Assist in preparing the restaurant for service and maintain the cleanliness of the room at all times.

What you'll be doing

• Maintain complete knowledge of all menu items, special, and items of the restaurant
• Maintain complete knowledge of and strictly abide by state liquor regulations, particularly those prohibiting service to minors, intoxicated persons and drunk driving
• Maintain complete knowledge of table/ seat/ station numbers, proper table set-ups, room capacity, hours of operation, price range and dress code of the restaurant
• Maintain complete knowledge of the correct use of equipment; use equipment only as intended. i.e. buffet equipment, etc.
• Maintain complete knowledge and comply with all departmental policies and service procedures
• Prepare station chart and assign stations to staff following departmental procedures
• Set-up Host(ess) station with necessary supplies; always maintain cleanliness. Report shortages to Supervisor
• Inspect the restaurant environment and entrance area, ensuring that all standards are met; rectify any deficiencies; always maintain cleanliness
• Inspect condition and cleanliness of menus and wine lists; ensure designated amounts are available. Update menus and wine lists as changes occur
• Place newspapers in designated areas for breakfast as specified in departmental procedures

Qualifications and Requirements

Basic reading, writing and math skills. Prior customer service and/or cash handling experience in the hospitality industry preferred.

This job requires the ability to perform the following

• Carrying or lifting items weighing up to 50 pounds
• Standing up and moving about the work area
• Handling food, objects, products and utensils
• Bending, stooping, kneeling

Other

• Communication skills utilize a significant amount of time when interacting with the guests and describing menu items, methods of preparation, etc.
• Reading and writing abilities are utilized often when preparing meals from instructions or when monitoring inventory.
• Mathematical skills, including basic math, percentages, quantities, and variances are used frequently.
• Alcohol awareness certification and/or food service permit or valid health/food handler card as required by local or state government agency.
• May be required to work nights, weekends, and/or holidays.

Anticipated Pay Range & Additional Job Information

• Pay rate $19.60
• Union Property: Pay rate outlined follows contract requirements.
