Description du poste

Bloom Hill Farm's Greenhouse Manager role is a part-time position in Uniontown, Ohio, supporting the 2027 flower season. The schedule generally runs Monday through Friday for four hours a day, with some Saturday hours during busy seasons, on-farm events, or markets. The role covers propagation, greenhouse production, nursery inventory, and retail plant operations.

Bloom Hill Farm grows fresh local organically grown blooms and also runs a flower stand, wedding and event work, everyday floral orders, a seasonal bouquet club, dahlia tuber sales, wholesale flowers, grocery-store floral deliveries, and a You Pick event farm. The greenhouse manager receives and tracks plant materials, maintains crop timing and quality records, and reports concerns to the owners. The work continues through heat, humidity, and cold, with outdoor tasks and greenhouse duties across the year. Staff direction, customer plant selection, and production planning all sit within the role.

Role: Greenhouse Manager

Employer: Bloom Hill Farm

Location: 10475 Hoover Avenue NW, Uniontown, Ohio 44685

Employment type: Part-time

Seedlings, Propagation, And Crop Care

The greenhouse manager plans seedlings, cuttings, and plug production, then receives, inspects, documents, tags, and manages incoming plant materials. Watering, fertigation, pruning, crop care, pest and disease scouting, and treatment protocols keep the propagation cycle moving from early plant material to retail-ready inventory. Crop quality and timing records help the owners identify problems before a sales season deadline.

Commercial greenhouse programs pair crop scouting with integrated pest management, biological control, nutrient management, and plant diagnostics. Bloom Hill Farm's role also includes support for hoop-house and field crops during the offseason, so crop care extends beyond the main propagation areas.

Nursery Inventory And Retail Plant Work

The nursery side covers storage, inventory, signage, plant tags, merchandising, and daily restocking. The greenhouse manager prepares product for sale, makes product-quality decisions, and helps customers choose plants. The work connects production timing with the point at which a plant reaches a retail bench or leaves the farm for another sales channel.

Annual planning includes retail plant varieties, production volumes, timing, and spring signage. Inventory records cover reorder needs and germination rates, while basic profitability analyses turn production information into recommendations. Computer literacy includes email, spreadsheets, label printing, sign printing, Farms software, and a project-management system.

Staff Direction And Farm Systems

The greenhouse manager directs nursery and greenhouse staff, sets daily priorities, and maintains quality expectations. Team members receive training in greenhouse operations, harvesting technique, and product quality. Owners receive updates on concerns, crop timing, and production issues as the season develops.

The role also reaches into harvesting, planting, weeding, equipment operation, markets, festivals, and customer service. Flower growers depend on clear handoffs between propagation, field work, harvest, and sales, and this position supervises those handoffs within the farm's own operation. Reliable records give the team a shared view of inventory and upcoming labor needs.

Physical Work And Seasonal Conditions

Greenhouse and field work requires standing for extended periods, repetitive manual tasks, and lifting up to 50 pounds. The manager works in heat, humidity, and cold while moving between propagation areas, retail spaces, hoop houses, and fields. Retail seasons also add customer questions, restocking, and daily quality checks to the physical work.

Pest and disease treatment protocols require careful handling of products and equipment. Greenhouse floriculture resources include label information, material safety data, and Worker Protection Standards among the materials used to manage pesticide-related work. The greenhouse manager's computer, crop, and staff records keep those operating decisions connected to the farm's quality standards.

The position also helps prepare the farm's annual retail plan before spring sales begin. Variety choices, production volumes, crop timing, and signage decisions determine how much nursery inventory reaches the retail operation at the right stage.

Bloom Hill Farm's broader flower business gives the greenhouse manager a direct connection to wholesale flowers, grocery-store deliveries, bouquet orders, and on-farm events. The role therefore carries plant material from propagation records into the customer-facing parts of the Uniontown farm.
