Job summary

Big River Forest Products is seeking a Green End (Sawmill) Superintendent in Vicksburg, MS. The role leads safety-driven production, manages process flow, and drives budgets and performance objectives with Supervisors and hourly staff.

You will oversee productivity improvements, quality recovery, and the development of teams through coaching and training, while ensuring compliance and continuous improvement in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of verifiable lumber or wood production experience.
• Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience.
• Proficient with MS Office and technical reading/interpretation.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the highest safety standards and lead by example; ensure team compliance with policies and regulations.
• Improve productivity, reduce costs, and maximize lumber quality, value, and recovery.
• Engage production and maintenance personnel to meet targets and address deficiencies.
• Develop and implement programs to meet standards at each job function; enforce corrective actions through Supervisors.
• Analyze quality control information and initiate corrective actions as needed.
• Analyze raw materials daily and adjust to meet production budgets.
• Foster open, respectful communication within the team.
• Hire, train, coach, mentor, and supervise employees; conduct performance reviews.

GREEN END (SAWMILL) SUPERINTENDENT

Big River Forest Products is seeking a Green End (Sawmill) superintendent. This position will provide leadership, training, and development to supervisors & hourly personnel by managing the process flow, resources and work force to meet/exceed established budgets and performance objectives.

Responsibilities

• Always maintain the highest standards with respect to safety, leading by example and ensuring the team follows all policies, procedures, practices and regulations.
• Manage and identify opportunities to improve productivity, reduce costs, and maximize the quality, value, and recovery of lumber produced.
• Engage production and maintenance workers to achieve targets, meet expectations, and address deficiencies in a productive and professional manner.
• Develops and implements programs to ensure product meets standard at each job function and implements corrective action through Supervisors.
• Analyzes quality control information provided and initiates corrective action plans as required.
• Analyzes raw materials daily, make adjustments as required to meet production budget levels.
• Foster a culture of open and respectful communication.
• Hire, train, coach, mentor, develop and supervise the work of employees.
• Conduct employee performance reviews based on job descriptions to determine competencies and knowledge.

Required Skills

• Minimum 3-5 years of experience of verifiable lumber or wood production manufacturing required.
• Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience.
• Excellent interpersonal skills – conflict management, coaching, supportive feedback, and problem solving. Ability to function as an effective team member.
• Strong mechanical and technical knowledge. Demonstrated track record of success in a complex and fast paced manufacturing environment.
• Read and interpret blueprints - Bluebeam software knowledge, CAD knowledge a plus.
• Must be computer literate, including a strong background in MS Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Solid analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Lean manufacturing/5S experience a plus.

Environmental Conditions

• Must be able to tolerate extreme hot, humid, cold, and outdoor conditions. Comfortable working in a loud environment, around moving machinery, with vibrations and airborne particles (sawdust).
