Job description

Geo Owl is seeking a candidate for a Greek Toponymist role (Geospatial Linguist) to support a customer site in Springfield, Virginia.

Active TS/SCI and willingness to obtain a POLY level clearance is REQUIRED to be considered.

The Toponymist (Geospatial Linguist) will analyze and conflate information associated with feature data listed in the Geographic Names Database (GNDB), working closely with Intelligence Community (IC) geographic names experts.

The selected candidate will use agency guidance and policies to respond to questions concerning the proper and correct usage of names, Romanization systems, and descriptive information on standard products.

This role involves using Geographic Names Processing Systems (GNPS), charts, imagery, and geospatial tools to refine name information for various products and respond to queries via the Ad Hoc Query process.

Responsibilities include preparing files and maps, accurately entering data to maintain and update the GNDB, and batching completed work into the database. The accuracy of work is critical to mission success.

Primary Responsibilities

The candidate will scan and geo-reference maps, research, and order geospatial data sources and imagery as references. They will interpret and apply policies from US BGN, DoS, NATO, and related organizations.

Minimum Qualifications
  • HS diploma with 2–4 years relevant experience
  • ILR Skill Level Two certification in reading (DLPT5 2/2) and at least 3 years of relevant work experience
  • Experience with ArcGIS or GeoMedia Pro, creating shapefiles, geo-databases, working with various maps and imagery, and research skills

Active TS/SCI and willingness to obtain a POLY clearance are REQUIRED.

  • BA degree with 2–4 years relevant experience or Master’s with less than 2 years experience
