Job description

Geo Owl is seeking a candidate for a Dutch Toponymist (Geospatial Linguist) role to support a customer site in Springfield, Virginia.

Active TS/SCI clearance and willingness to obtain a POLY level clearance are REQUIRED.

The Toponymist (Geospatial Linguist) will analyze and conflate feature data in the Geographic Names Database (GNDB) while collaborating with Intelligence Community (IC) geographic names experts.

Responsibilities include using agency guidance to respond to questions on name usage, Romanization systems, and descriptive information, utilizing tools like GNPS, charts, imagery, and geospatial software to refine names for various products, and maintaining GNDB data accuracy.

Primary duties involve scanning and geo-referencing maps, researching geospatial data sources, and applying policies from US BGN, DoS, NATO, etc., to geospatial data.

Minimum Qualifications

• HS diploma and 2-4 years relevant experience

• ILR Skill Level Two certification (DLPT5 2/2) in the language and at least 3 years of relevant work experience

• Experience with ArcGIS or GeoMedia Pro, creating shapefiles, geo-databases, map interpretation, and research skills

Active TS/SCI clearance and willingness to obtain a POLY clearance are REQUIRED.

• Experience processing geographic names per agency policies

• Self-starter with ability to work independently and multitask

• Team player

• BA degree with 2-4 years relevant experience or Master’s with less than 2 years
