Job summary

UniFirst Corporation is seeking a Graphic Digitizer and Design Specialist to support workflow in digitizing and vector art creation, and to prepare samples for Direct to Film, Emblem Manufacturing, or Direct Embroidery operations. You will design art from job specs, calibrate colors, and optimize print quality across software tools.

  • Bachelor's degree in graphic art or related field or 2+ years' related job experience may be used in lieu of education.
  • Proficient in vector art creation using Adobe Illustrator or equivalent software.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office required.
  • Direct to Film production and embroidery experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Communicates electronic written design and documentation with locations, branches, and inter-office operations professionally.
  • Determines size and arrangement of artwork based on space, aesthetics, and production requirements.
  • Enters information into computer to create design layouts or sew-outs for clients or staff.
  • Operates embroidery machine and understands embroidery processes.
  • Prepares illustrations, layouts, and copies for print reproduction according to instructions.
  • Copies and/or converts designs as required.
  • Assists in printing, filing, or purging files.
  • Alters illustrations to resize or clarify images.
  • Notes design issues by comparing requests to guidelines and training.
  • Expands computer graphic design knowledge through training and practice.
  • Supports Personalization department including Screen Print Art Creation and Sample Prep.

Job description

The Graphic Digitizer and Design Specialist provides communication support and performs practical duties to assist workflow requirements in the digitizing/vector art creation areas, as well as the sample preparation/clerical areas. Electronically designs and prepares art for the Direct to Film, Emblem Manufacturing, or Direct Embroidery operation. Works from electronic document(s) to create art based on job requirements, customer specifications, and other related design information. Operates computer and other peripheral electronic equipment to complete job assignments. Provides technical support for DTF (Direct-to-Film) printer software, including color calibration, software configuration, ICC profile management, troubleshooting, and print quality optimization

Responsibilities
  • Communicates electronic written communication (design, document, log response) with locations, branches, and other inter-office operations in a business professional manner.
  • Determines size and arrangement of illustrative material and copy based upon available space, aesthetic design, and production requirements.
  • Enters information into computer with mouse, keyboard, scanner, or modem to create design layouts or sew-outs for clients or staff.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of embroidery equipment and is able to independently operate a Single-Head embroidery machine as required.
  • Prepares illustrations, sketches, layouts, and copy of print reproduction according to client/staff instructions.
  • Copies and/or converts designs as required.
  • Assists in printing, filing, or purging files.
  • Alters illustrations to enlarge, reduce, or clarify images.
  • Notes design issues by comparing requested information to guidelines and training guide provided.
  • Increases knowledge of computer graphic design through supervised training, hands-on problem solving, trade publications, and independent study.
  • Provides assistance in the Personalization department (cross-train), including Screen Print Art Creation, Sample Prep, Graphic Problem Resolution, and other production areas within Personalization and the Distribution Center.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
  • Bachelors degree in graphic art or related field OR 2 or more years' related job experience may be used in lieu of required education.
  • Candidate must be able to provide a digital portfolio or examples of work that demonstrates proficiency and skills.
  • Proficient skill in vector art creation using Adobe Illustrator or equivalent software is required.
  • Functional knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office is required.
  • Direct to Film production and embroidery experience is preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and reading in English required.
  • Ability to preform basic mathematical functions.
  • Ability to determine cause of problems and determine solutions.
  • Job will require participation and compliance with all policies and procedures related to ISO (quality) and safety.
