Job summary

University of Texas Rio Grande Valley is hiring a Sponsored Program Accountant to manage fiscal activities for externally funded projects. You will set up project accounts, monitor expenditures, prepare reports, and ensure compliance with sponsor requirements.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least two years of governmental or fund accounting experience. Strong knowledge of OMB Circulars A-21/A-110 is preferred, with responsibility for reporting and reconciliation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or related field from an accredited university.
• Two (2) years of governmental or fund accounting experience.
• Knowledge of grants management and related regulations.
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
• Ability to interpret policies and provide reports to sponsors.

Responsibilities

• Performs compliance reviews and fund approvals to determine allowability and allocability.
• Prepares financial reports and ensures timely budget adjustments within sponsor guidelines.
• Advises program managers and staff on compliance and fund status.
• Interprets and administers rules and procedures by the University and external agencies.
• Prepares federal funds drawdowns and monitors accounts receivable for sponsored projects.
• Reconciles project accounts and reviews cost transfers for accuracy.
• Provides guidance on OMB Circulars A-21 and A-110 to staff.
• Prepares accounting journal entries and period close documentation.
• May conduct training sessions and assist in special projects.
