Job summary

Northwestern University in Evanston, IL, seeks a Research Administrator to manage day-to-day research administration activities for the Physics & Astronomy and Earth, Environmental, & Planetary Sciences departments. The role reports to the Manager of Research Administration and supports proposal development, award management, and closeout tasks.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years in research administration, strong communication, and problem-solving skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• At least three years of research administration or related experience.
• Ability to navigate federal policies and university guidelines on sponsored research.

Responsibilities

• Pre-Award: manage proposal submission, budget preparation, and forms; coordinate IRB protocols.
• Post-Award: coordinate post-award administration and account close-out activities.
• Financial: oversee sponsored project portfolio and assist with budgeting and reporting.
• Compliance: ensure compliance with NU policies and sponsor rules.
• HR: provide training and mentor staff in research administration.
