Job summary

City of Decatur is seeking a seasoned Grants Manager to lead the Grants Division, secure funding, and maximize community impact. You’ll oversee federal, state, and other grant programs from opportunity identification through closeout, ensuring compliance and strong financial controls.

You’ll collaborate across City departments, mentor staff, manage budgets and reporting, and build partnerships with funding agencies and stakeholders to advance city priorities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance, public administration, social service, or related field.
• Three to five years of experience in grants administration, social service program administration, or accounting.
• Equivalent combination of education, experience, and training may be considered.
• Knowledge of federal, state, and local policies, regulations, and compliance requirements.
• Knowledge of grant administration including funding sources, application processes, and reporting.
• Knowledge of grant program audit requirements and best practices.
• Knowledge of procurement processes and municipal financial planning.
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint).

Responsibilities

• Lead the Grants Division and oversee the full lifecycle of federal, state, and other grant programs.
• Identify funding opportunities that align with City priorities and advise departments on pursuing them.
• Coordinate grant applications, project scopes, budgets, environmental reviews, and required documentation.
• Serve as a key resource to City departments throughout the grant process—from application through closeout.
• Build productive relationships with departments, grant partners, funding agencies, and other stakeholders.
