Job summary

Ava Community Energy is seeking a Grants Manager to develop and implement a multi-year grants strategy supporting customer programs. You will oversee a ~$9M grants portfolio, drive solicitations, evaluate proposals, manage agreements, and assure performance and reporting across the grant lifecycle.

The role requires 7+ years in grantmaking or related fields, strong project management and communication skills, and a commitment to equitable customer benefits. Hybrid work from Oakland, CA.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in public administration, public policy, business, finance, environmental studies, sustainability, or related field.
• 7+ years of experience in grantmaking, grant administration, program management or related field.
• Experience developing and implementing grant programs, including solicitations, evaluation criteria, and reporting requirements.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement a comprehensive, multi-year grants strategy aligned with Ava’s customer programs and priorities.
• Lead design and issuance of grant opportunities and manage applicant review and selection processes.
• Oversee grant lifecycle including strategy, stakeholder engagement, design, evaluation, reporting, and closeout.
• Monitor grantee performance, expenditures, milestones, risks, and compliance with agreements.
• Prepare funding recommendations and portfolio-level reports for leadership and Board.
