Job summary

University of Minnesota is seeking a Finance Manager for the Department of Biomedical Science (VBS). The role partners with the Department Chair and PIs to ensure fiscal compliance, forecasts, and efficient operations, focusing on post‑award financial management and departmental budgeting.

The position supports remote work with in‑person presence as needed, and requires experience with grants, complex policies, and communication with leadership.

Qualifications

• BA/BS in Finance, Business Administration, Accounting or related field with at least four years of professional financial management experience or an equivalent combination.
• Experience working with grants and understanding of complex institutional, state, and federal financial policies.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for advising faculty, researchers and leadership on financial strategies.

Responsibilities

• Oversee post-award financial management for external and internal awards, including reconciliation, cost allocations and compliance auditing.
• Collaborate with SPA and SFR for financial reporting and project close‑outs; prepare monthly/annual financial reports and projections.
• Meet with PIs regularly to review project finances, analyze spending trends and advise on compliance requirements.
• Coordinate budget changes with project staff and manage departmental effort reporting.
