Job summary

The University of South Carolina is seeking a Grants Coordinator to provide administrative support across the full lifecycle of sponsored projects. You will liaise with principal investigators, departmental leadership, central offices, and sponsors to develop proposals, set up awards, monitor activities, and ensure regulatory compliance.

  • Knowledge of basic accounting and financial principles as they relate to sponsored projects.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with faculty, administrators, sponsors, and external partners.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

  • Coordinate award setup and implementation, monitor project activities, and ensure compliance with sponsor, institutional, and regulatory requirements.
  • Promote efficient management of sponsored programs and support transitions from proposal development through award closeout.

This position collaborates closely with principal investigators, departmental leadership, central administrative offices, and external sponsors to facilitate proposal development and submission, coordinate award setup and implementation, monitor project activities, and ensure compliance with sponsor, institutional, and regulatory requirements. The Grants Coordinator promotes the efficient management of sponsored programs by supporting seamless transitions from proposal development through award closeout, enhancing communication, and contributing to the successful stewardship of the department's research portfolio.


Minimum and Additional Requirements

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Knowledge- Knowledge of basic accounting and financial principles as they relate to sponsored projects. Skills- Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with faculty, administrators, sponsors, and external partners. - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and accuracy. - Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Abilities- Interpret and apply sponsor guidelines, institutional policies, and regulatory requirements. - Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive financial and research information. - Work independently while effectively collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. - Prioritize competing demands in a fast‑paced environment while consistently meeting deadlines. - Learn and adapt to evolving sponsor requirements, institutional policies, and research administration systems. - Support principal investigators and departmental leadership through proactive communication, planning, and administrative coordination. - Maintain accurate records and documentation that support compliance, audits, and financial accountability.
