Job summary

Kids In Crisis seeks a Grant Writer to secure and renew funding for programs. You will work with the Managing Director of Development and Marketing to research opportunities, craft proposals, prepare reports, and manage the grants calendar.

You’ll gather program details, outcomes, and budgets, and collaborate with the team to present a compelling case for support. You will build relationships with funders, ensure timely submissions, and provide writing support across the Development team,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Nonprofit Management, or a related field.
• Three or more years of grant writing experience, ideally in nonprofit human services.
• A track record of securing foundation, corporate, or government grants.
• Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to explain programs and results clearly and accurately to funders.
• Comfort working with budgets, program data, and outcome measures.
• Experience with donor CRM such as Salsa Engage, EveryAction, Bloomerang, Blackbaud, Salesforce Nonprofit Cloud, or similar, and with grant research tools such as Foundation Directory Online.
• Highly organized, able to manage several deadlines and work independently.
• Discretion and good judgment with confidential client and agency information.
• Comfort using AI tools to speed up research and first drafts, with human review of all content.

Responsibilities

• Grant Writing: Write clear, persuasive proposals and applications for foundations, corporations, civic organizations, and funders, tailored to each funder's interests and agency priorities.
• Prepare and submit accurate grant reports on time.
• Prospect Research: Identify new funding prospects to maintain a steady pipeline and track eligibility, giving history, deadlines, and funder priorities.
• Relationship Building: Build and maintain funder relationships with program officers and corporate giving contacts.
• Collaborate with Program staff, Finance and leadership to gather program descriptions, outcomes, and budget detail for proposals.
• Grant Management: Manage the full grant cycle from application through close out; track compliance and deadlines in Salsa and the Grant Action Sheet.
• Work with Finance to build program budgets supporting each request and funder's format.
• Maintain the annual Grants Calendar for renewals and new submissions.
