Job summary

Howard University’s Office of Research is seeking a Proposal Development Specialist to provide comprehensive proposal development support to faculty pursuing external funding. The role involves collaborating across schools/colleges, translating research ideas into sponsor-responsive proposals, and strengthening grantsmanship capacity within a dynamic, R1 research environment.

The specialist will analyze funding opportunities, support submission processes, and contribute to workshops and faculty

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required with at least three years of experience in research development, proposal development, grant writing, or related fields.
Experience with federally sponsored programs and coordinating complex proposals is essential.
Ability to interpret funding announcements and translate sponsor requirements into actionable plans.

Responsibilities

Provide proposal development support to faculty and research teams across multiple engagements and sponsor deadlines.
Consult with faculty from concept to refinement, translating ideas into compelling applications.
Develop outlines, templates, checklists, and guidance to help investigators organize strong applications.
