Howard University’s Office of Research seeks a Proposal Development Specialist to support faculty across disciplines in securing external funding. You will help translate research ideas into compelling, sponsor-responsive proposals and manage components from concept to submission.

The role emphasizes writing, editing, and coordination across schools, with a focus on strategic funding opportunities and sustained grantsmanship from a dynamic research environment in Washington, DC.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
• At least three years of progressively responsible experience in research development, proposal development, grant writing, research administration, or related field.
• Experience with federally funded proposals or complex proposal coordination.
• Ability to interpret funding announcements and translate sponsor requirements into guidance.

Responsibilities

• Provide proposal development support to faculty and research teams pursuing external funding.
• Analyze funding opportunities and sponsor priorities to position proposals competitively.
• Review proposal drafts for clarity, organization, and responsiveness to review criteria.
• Develop outlines, templates, and guidance to organize strong applications.
• Collaborate with Research Development, Sponsored Programs, and academic units to support investigators.
