Job summary

Linda Hall Library in Kansas City, MO seeks a Grants Manager to lead grant prospecting, proposal writing, and stewardship reporting. You will collaborate with the Advancement team to secure philanthropic funding and ensure compliance with funder requirements.

The role reports to the Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations and involves coordinating with department leaders, monitoring deadlines, and supporting donor cultivation activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, English, creative writing, technical writing, marketing, nonprofit management, public administration, or related field.
  • 3+ years of grant writing and grants management experience with a track record of securing funding.
  • Proven ability to develop persuasive grant proposals, letters of inquiry and stewardship reports with strong writing and editing skills.
  • Strong research skills including prospect research and data analysis to support funding strategies.
  • Experience managing multiple grant deadlines, reporting requirements, and competing priorities accurately.
  • Ability to interpret financial information and contribute to grant budgets and financial reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across departments and communicate with all levels of the organization.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and proactive approach to obtaining information and solutions.
  • Working knowledge of grant compliance and related regulations and reporting expectations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

  • Research and identify grant funding opportunities aligned with organizational priorities and programs.
  • Develop, write, edit, and submit competitive grant proposals and supporting documentation.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to gather data for proposals and reports.
  • Manage grant calendars, deadlines, submissions, reporting requirements, and budgets.
  • Assist with grant budget development and financial planning.
  • Build and maintain relationships with foundations, government entities, and funders.
  • Ensure compliance with grant requirements and funder expectations.
  • Provide writing/editing support for donor communications and advancement initiatives.
  • Support donor cultivation events and other advancement activities.
  • Perform additional duties to support organizational goals.
